Introduction
Since the POCO X6 series hit the Indian market, the Pro variant has grabbed most of the attention. Featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset and the new Xiaomi HyperOS, the Pro model became a hot topic. However, the standard POCO X6 5G is a formidable option in its own right. After using the phone for about two weeks, I’ve gathered my thoughts on whether the price difference between the standard and Pro models is justified. Let's dive into the detailed review.
Verdict
The POCO X6 5G is one of the best phones available around the Rs 20,000 mark in India. It offers excellent performance, a stunning display, and fast charging capabilities. While it doesn't have all the features of the POCO X6 Pro, it stands strong on its own. Despite some shortcomings in low-light camera performance, its overall prowess makes it easy to recommend.
Design and Display
The POCO X6 5G boasts an attractive design with a noticeable camera bump. The rear camera sensors stick out significantly, causing the phone to wobble on flat surfaces if used without a case. The included case helps mitigate this issue, but the phone's Snowstorm White color and sand-like texture are best appreciated without a case.
With a 6.67-inch display and a thickness of 7.9mm, the phone might feel bulky to some. However, I found it comfortable to use even with one hand. The 1.5K Flow AMOLED CrystalRes panel has a pixel density of 446ppi and a peak brightness of 1800 nits, making it easy to view even in direct sunlight. The display also offers a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate, ensuring smooth navigation and a great gaming experience. Gorilla Glass Victus protection adds durability.
Cameras
The POCO X6 5G features a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. It also has a 16MP front camera. Despite claims of a new POCO image engine, I found the camera performance inconsistent. In good lighting, the phone captures detailed images, but in low light, the quality drops significantly, resulting in grainy photos.
The selfie camera performs well, capturing facial details and skin tones accurately. The phone excels in edge detection for portrait shots. Video recording is decent, with 4K recording at 30fps and stable videos thanks to OIS and EIS.
Performance and Software
Powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset and up to 12GB RAM, the POCO X6 5G handles tasks smoothly. With Memory Expansion 3.0, RAM can be increased up to 24GB. During my usage, the phone showed no signs of lag or crashes, even with multiple apps open.
In benchmark tests, the phone scored 593702 on AnTuTu and had single-core and multi-core scores of 1025 and 2951 on Geekbench. It handled graphically intensive games like Battlegrounds Mobile India and EA Sports FC Mobile Football without heating issues.
The phone runs MIUI 14.0.2, featuring pre-installed apps like Netflix and Snapchat. While some may find these useful, others might not. The familiar MIUI interface offers convenient features and proved stable during my testing.
Battery and Charging
The POCO X6 5G is equipped with a 5100mAh battery and supports 67W fast charging. It charges from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes. The Smart Charging feature helps maintain battery health. In the PCMark Work 3.0 battery test, the phone lasted 12 hours and 47 minutes. With regular use, it easily lasts a day and a half.
Final Verdict
The POCO X6 5G is a performance-focused phone ideal for gaming, video watching, and multitasking. Its 67W fast charging and long battery life add to its appeal. The camera performance is decent but has consistency issues. The design is attractive, but the camera bump may require a case for stability. Overall, for its price, the POCO X6 5G is hard to beat in terms of performance. However, for better camera options, consider alternatives like the Moto Edge 40 Neo, Realme 11 Pro, or Samsung Galaxy F54.
